A Malagouzia from a small vineyard called “Bara”, at an altitude of 720 meters in Amyndeon, Florina, is the new label of the KIR-YIANNI Estate, which enriches the premium family of Single Vineyard wines of the Estate.
The first planting of Malagouzia in the selected block “Bara”, part of the famous Samaropetra vineyard of the KYR-YANNI Estate in Agios Panteleimon of Amyndeon, took place in 2004. As Stellios Boutaris, winemaker of KYR-GIANNI, emphasizes, “This is definitely not just another Malagouzia. On the contrary, we were tasting it and it has been .. testing us for 18 years, at one of the highest altitudes this variety is grown in Greece.”
THE CREATION OF THE NEW WINE
Malagouzia Single Vineyard is a very interesting single-vineyard exercise and study, from the vineyard to the winery. The goal is to let the variety and the way it is expressed in this small piece of vineyard, selected over the years, shine. And this is the philosophy behind the winemaking, with pre-fermentative maceration to bring out the aromatic intensity of Malagouzia and four months in light lees with periodic stirring (batonnage), which added volume and structure to the wine. The new label is available in selected cellars and restaurants.
